Many people use hypnotherapy to provide extra help in the process of giving up smoking. The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) is the UK regulator for complementary therapists that was set up with government funding and support.  

Hypnotherapy is often used to help clients achieve the behavioural change needed to stop smoking but it’s so important the public use someone who knows what they are doing. I smoked all my life and didn't believe anything or anyone could help me give up as I had tried everything, patches, willpower, cutting down etc . I really had no idea that hypnotherapy was so great in helping people to give up smoking. I haven't had any cravings so far and I don't really miss having a cigerette which is amazing for me. Having been fairly heavy smokers for over 25 years we had the good fortune of a recommendation to Hypnotherapy Space. Whilst we knew we had to give up smoking; neither of us really wanted to. Pressure from the family to stop encouraged us to think about it. We tried going cold turkey several times over the years, but ashamedly never had the ability to last even a day! Peer pressure didn’t help as most of our friends smoke, but suddenly the dark tunnel showed a little light at the end that indicated the right time was approaching. The appointment was made and we can honestly say that from the last cigarette smoked outside the consultation premises moments before our joint session, neither of us has smoked since – three whole months! Neither of us is actually sure what happened during the session but something life changing clearly occurred. The tools we were given enabled us to overcome the urges; even coping with two boisterous sons hasn’t affected our non-smoking journey. We both feel so much healthier, are taking aerobic exercise that would not have been possible before and can even be in a situation where our friends are smoking without fretting. Thank you Sue for your expertise in getting us to this point; long may it continue…

I came to see Sue to get help with giving up smoking. Some years previous I had given up with two of my friends using will power. Whilst they remained non-smokers I took up the habit again. As decision time came around I realised that even with the support of my family and friends, I would need some extra help. I live with a smoker and worried about being able to be a non-smoker with the temptation that living with a smoker would bring. I wasn’t confident that ‘will power’ alone would be enough this time. I was given the opportunity for a consultation with Sue at Hypnotherapy Space. I had never been to see a hypnotherapist before and naturally had some questions and concerns. I needn’t have worried, Sue explained the whole hypnotherapy process, answered all my questions, addressed all my concerns and really but me at ease. I can honestly say that the whole experience was a very positive one and most importantly this time I haven’t just given up smoking - I have become a ‘non-smoker’. That was back in August last year (2012), and I have been a non-smoker for 7 months now and can honestly say I am never tempted to pick up a cigarette and smoke it, even living with and being around people who do. I feel free now to enjoy uninterrupted conversation with my non-smoking friends, (I don’t have to go outside in the cold for a cigarette!) but equally I can stand with my smoking friends and enjoy their company without feeling the need to join them. I can’t explain what is different this time but I don’t have to make a conscious effort not to smoke, I just don’t smoke or even think about smoking. It’s great! I would highly recommend Sue and hypnotherapy to anyone thinking of giving up smoking. For me it has been a positive and effective way of becoming and remaining a non-smoker for life.
